Residents and owners

If you rent a house or apartment in the City of Melbourne, you must vote in the Council elections once you are enrolled. You just need a signed rental agreement and to have lived there for one month or more.

If you are an international student, you can vote. You do not need to be a citizen. You just need to rent a house or apartment in the City of Melbourne under a rental agreement.

If you own a house or apartment in the City of Melbourne and live in it or live somewhere else in Australia or overseas, you must vote in the Council elections once you are enrolled.

You can own the property by yourself or share ownership.

You just need to have owned the property for one month and be 18 years old or older.

If you have moved into the City of Melbourne in the past four years, you might not be enrolled so you need to check your enrolment.

If you are an Australian citizen, the best way to quickly check if you are enrolled is to visit the Victorian Electoral Commission website.

If you are enrolled, you do not need to do anything. A ballot pack will be mailed to you when it is time to vote.

If you are not enrolled or are not sure if you are enrolled, you can call our City of Melbourne Elections Support Team on 1300 735 427 or email elections@melbourne.vic.gov.au

Complete the following form/s to enrol, change your enrolment or update your personal details on the roll:
