As a citizen of Australia living in the City of Melbourne, you are eligible to vote in the Council Elections. Your enrolment is managed by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).

If you are over 18 and an Australian Citizen living in the City of Melbourne, you must enrol to vote with the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC). Visit their website to enrol or to check your enrolment.

Property owners and occupiers who live in Australia but outside the municipality must vote in council elections. Council uses its council records to automatically enrol up to two ratepayers per property.

Please contact the elections helpline on 1300 735 425 or email elections@melbourne.vic.gov.au if you would like to be excluded from voting due to overseas residency, or believe you should be enrolled but are not.

If you have previously represented a company in Council Elections, and are not entitled to vote in the 2024 Council Elections, you can resign your nomination by submitting Form F – Notice of Resignation from Corporate Representative. A joint corporate owner or joint corporate occupier of rateable property in the City of Melbourne can register a maximum of two company officers to vote on behalf of the joint companies in the Council Elections.

A company that exclusively owns or occupies rateable property in the City of Melbourne must register two company officers to vote on behalf of the company in the Council Elections. Unless two representatives are nominated, City of Melbourne will attempt to deem the remaining entitlements to officers of the company. Failure to vote may result in a fine.

Note that for the new enrolments to take effect, your company must also revoke existing company representatives through section 3 of Form A.
